A £1 starting bid looks like a gimmick until you understand the economics. Here's the honest version.
Why we can start everything at £1
Our stock is customer returns, unclaimed lost property and overstock, inventory that has already had its first retail life. The worst outcome for stock like this is sitting on a shelf costing warehouse space. A £1 start guarantees everything moves, and the auction format means the market, not us, decides what each lot is really worth.
Most nights that works out fine for both sides: popular lots get bid to a fair price, unusual lots go cheap to the one person who spotted their value. That's the deal.
How the bidding works
Biddurs auctions are timed events, not live-stream auctions. Each event has a closing time, each lot within it counts down, and the highest bid when the clock hits zero wins. If someone bids in the final seconds, the lot extends briefly, so sniping doesn't beat a genuine top price.
You bid with a saved card, and you're only charged if you win: hammer price, plus a small buyer's premium, plus delivery, with VAT included in what you see.
Three tactics that actually help
- Bid your maximum early. Our proxy bidding holds your top price and only bids the minimum needed to keep you winning. You won't pay your max unless someone pushes you there.
- Watch the lot count. Events with more lots spread bidder attention, that's where the £3 bargains live.
- Check the sold-price archive. We publish what everything actually went for, so you can see what a fair price looks like before you bid.
